Capcom's latest statistics reveal that Resident Evil 4 Remake's VR Mode has attracted almost 200k players on PlayStation VR2 (PSVR2). According to the Japanese publisher's global stats update, exactly 199,794 players have tried the game in virtual reality, representing 2.18% of the total player base.
The VR player count for Resident Evil 4 Remake comes nearly 18 months after its PlayStation VR2 release. While impressive, these numbers fall significantly short of those achieved by Resident Evil 7, which has drawn over 1.2 million VR players. This older title currently boasts 1,240,932 VR players, making up 7.88% of its total audience, despite only supporting the original PlayStation VR headset on PS4.
Interestingly, Capcom hasn't provided similar detailed statistics for Resident Evil Village, its other PlayStation VR2 title. For Village, fans can only see collective VR playtime – currently standing at 164 years, 42 days – along with completion rates for various difficulty levels. The specific VR player count remains undisclosed.
It's worth noting that Resident Evil 4 Remake's VR Mode wasn't available at the game's initial launch. The base game was released in March 2023, but VR support arrived more than eight months later, which may have affected adoption rates.
Critics have praised the VR implementation highly. Reviews call it a “must-play” for PSVR2 owners, praising its immersion, visuals, and polished gameplay. It’s considered Capcom’s best VR experience, surpassing Resident Evil 7 and Village VR modes. Awkward third-person switches and occasional control clunkiness are noted, but don’t overshadow the experience.
For those interested in trying out this highly-regarded VR experience, Resident Evil 4 Remake - VR Mode is available exclusively on PlayStation VR2. Players can download a free VR Mode demo to sample the experience before purchasing the full game.
