Popular Twitch streamer Asmongold has officially left One True King (OTK), the gaming and entertainment company he co-founded in 2020. He announced this decision during a February 21 stream on his secondary Twitch channel "zackrawrr."
Asmongold explained that his recent shift toward controversial political content made it difficult for him to remain with the organization. His involvement was creating problems for OTK in finding sponsors, and other members were experiencing harassment because of his statements.
"Doing controversial political content is really hard to synthesize with content that's not like that because of just how extreme it is," Asmongold said during his stream. "I can tank harassment...and it's not a problem, but I don't want to sign other people up for that."
The streamer described his departure as mutual and mentioned he remains on friendly terms with people in the organization.
His relationship with OTK had already been strained before this announcement. In October, Asmongold stepped back from his leadership roles within the company after making controversial comments about Palestinians, calling them "terrible people" with an "inferior culture." These remarks resulted in significant backlash from fans and a 14-day ban from Twitch.
OTK member Nmplol had previously called out Asmongold's fans for harassing other members of the organization. Another member, Cinna, stated during a February 12 stream that Asmongold's actions were hurting the company and suggested people connected to him should distance themselves.
More recently, Asmongold faced criticism for comments regarding Nazi book burnings made on February 16. He claimed critics were "trying to paint him as a Nazi."
Despite these controversies, Asmongold expressed happiness about his decision to leave OTK. "Everything is good. I totally support them. I might be at events every once in a while, but it'll be as a friend. Or with some of them, maybe just a coworker," he said.
One True King was founded in October 2020 by content creators Asmongold, Mizkif, Esfand, Rich Campbell, and Tips Out. Based in Austin, Texas, the organization focuses on online content creation and has previously competed professionally in World of Warcraft.
The company has gained recognition for building its success without major corporate backing, unlike traditional esports teams. OTK has positioned itself as more of a media production company and lifestyle brand rather than focusing on any single game or Twitch category.
