Recent findings suggest that Assassin's Creed Shadows will be available on Nintendo's upcoming Switch 2 console.
Members of the Gaming Leaks and Rumours subreddit discovered that the Pan European Game Information (PEGI) website now lists "Nintendo Switch 2" alongside other platforms (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC) for Assassin's Creed Shadows. Interestingly, this information appears only on the site's front page under the "most searched games" section, not on the game's dedicated PEGI page.
While it doesn't mean official confirmation, it adds credibility to previous rumors about Ubisoft's plans for Nintendo's next console. Last August, a prominent leaker, Nash Weedle, suggested that multiple latest Assassin's Creed titles, as well as Shodows would be ported to the Switch 2. According to his source, older entries like Odyssey and Origins would be bundled together, with Ubisoft reportedly planning major support for Nintendo's new hardware.
The Assassin's Creed franchise has had a limited presence on Nintendo's current Switch platform. Assassin's Creed 3 Remastered and Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag were released on the Switch after initially appearing on the Wii U. The Assassin's Creed: The Ezio Collection (featuring Assassin's Creed 2, Brotherhood, and Revelations) and Assassin's Creed: The Rebel Collection (featuring Black Flag and Rogue) have also made their way to the system.
However, many mainline titles in the series remain unavailable on the current Switch. Assassin's Creed Odyssey is only playable via cloud streaming in Japan, while other major entries such as the original Assassin's Creed, Unity, Syndicate, Origins, and Valhalla have not appeared on the platform at all due to hardware limitations and development priorities.
This makes the potential Switch 2 release of Shadows particularly significant. The more powerful hardware of Nintendo's next console could finally allow the full-fledged Assassin's Creed experience to be properly playable on a Nintendo system without compromises.
This isn't the only Ubisoft title reportedly heading to Switch 2. The company has already confirmed that Star Wars Outlaws will launch on the platform, though not as a launch title. According to announcements at this weekend's Star Wars Celebration in Japan, the game will release on September 4, 2025, with story-based DLC coming on May 15.
The Nintendo Switch 2 represents a significant hardware upgrade over its predecessor. Technical specifications indicate it will feature a larger 7.9-inch 1080p LCD screen (improved from the original's 6.2-inch 720p display), 256 GB storage (up from 32 GB), and 12 GB RAM (compared to 4 GB). The console will be powered by a custom NVIDIA T239 processor supporting advanced features like DLSS, ray tracing, and 120Hz variable refresh rate displays.
According to Digital Foundry analysis, the Switch 2's performance capabilities are comparable to the base PlayStation 4. NVIDIA has made bold claims about the new console's graphics processor, stating it offers "10 times the graphics performance" of the original Switch.
With Nintendo recently announcing pre-orders will begin next week in the USA without significant price changes (except for some accessories), excitement continues to build for the new console and its potential game library, which may finally include modern Assassin's Creed experiences.
