Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 - Details Emerge from Playtester Leak

Call of Duty: Black Ops

A playtester has revealed new information about the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, suggesting the game will be a sequel to Black Ops 2 set in 2035 and featuring the return of familiar characters.

The leak appeared on Reddit from a user named Bigbyy, who claims to have participated in a recent Call of Duty study group. Many of these details align with previous reports and leaks, adding credibility to the information.

However, since these details come from a feedback session, some features might not make it to the final game.

Here is what the playtester says:

Time Setting and Narrative: Black Ops 7 is reportedly set in 2035, a direct sequel to Black Ops 2 (2012), which split its timeline between the 1980s and 2025. This futuristic setting aligns with Black Ops 2’s forward-looking narrative, featuring returning characters like Frank Woods and Alex Mason.

Four-Player Co-Op: The leak claims a four-player co-op campaign, a significant departure from the traditionally solo or two-player co-op campaigns of past Call of Duty titles. Black Ops 3 introduced co-op for up to four players, but it was clunky, with AI companions filling empty slots and a focus on linear missions.

Progression Carryover from Black Ops 6: The leak claims Black Ops 6 multiplayer progression will carry over to Black Ops 7. Historically, each Call of Duty resets progression annually, though Warzone unified some elements across Modern Warfare and Black Ops titles since 2020. Black Ops Cold War and Vanguard (2021) shared Warzone progression but not core multiplayer.

Omni-Movement and Wall-Running: The return of “Omni-movement” with wall-running builds on Black Ops 6’s fluid mechanics, which allow sprinting, sliding, and diving in any direction. Wall-running was iconic in Black Ops 3 and Advanced Warfare but divisive, with critics arguing it favored twitchy playstyles over tactical positioning. Black Ops Cold War and Modern Warfare series reverted to grounded movement.

Return of Original Crew and Multiverse: The leak claims the original Zombies crew (Dempsey, Nikolai, Takeo, Richtofen) returns as multiverse variants, tying to Black Ops 2 and Black Ops 3’s complex Aether storyline. Black Ops 6 reintroduced round-based Zombies with new characters and maps (e.g., Liberty Falls), while Black Ops 4 and Cold War experimented with new crews and modes like Outbreak.

Other features:

  • The story will also include a big open world map titled “Avalon”

  • Zombies mode will have a Tranzit remake

  • Zombies will be round-based

  • Zombies mode will also have a difficulty toggle, a “wonder vehicle” and a more story-focused role as well

  • Zombies mode will feature the largest round based map ever created

  • Multiplayer will feature a 32vs32 player mode

  • Will feature some remakes of popular maps in a 2035 futuristic Japanese style theme

  • Plan for everything to have a progression level system, including grenades, killstreaks and perks

Curiously, the Reddit leaker also mentioned seeing information about a new Prototype game featuring Alex Mercer returning as the protagonist, though this seems unrelated to the Call of Duty study group and has raised some questions about the overall credibility of the leak.

It's worth emphasizing that these details come from a study group designed to gauge player interest and collect feedback. As with any pre-release information, some features may change or be removed entirely before the final game launches.

If these leaks prove accurate, Black Ops 7 could represent one of the most ambitious and feature-rich Call of Duty titles in recent years, especially with its continuation of the popular Black Ops 2 timeline and significant innovations across all game modes.
