Capcom, the company behind popular video games like Monster Hunter and Resident Evil, has received a special award from the Japanese government for its impressive work with trademarks and intellectual property rights.

The game developer was given the "Commissioner of Japan Patent Office Award for Corporate Utilization of Intellectual Property" as part of the 2025 Intellectual Property Distinguished Service Awards.

This recognition comes from Japan's Patent Office and Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, highlighting Capcom's significant role in developing and using Japan's intellectual property system.

What makes Capcom stand out is its massive collection of 6,000 domestic and international trademarks. The company has also been praised for its strong digital sales strategy that has helped it sell 290 game titles across 230 countries and regions around the world.

According to GameBiz (translated via Automation), the award specifically recognizes Capcom's "Single Content Multiple Usage" approach. This strategy involves taking their game-related trademarks and turning them into merchandise and services beyond just the games themselves. For example, one trademark covers Chun-Li toy dolls from their Street Fighter series.

The company has also been praised for its innovative approach to trademark management.. As per the report, Capcom has pioneered the use of AI technology for checking trademarks, setting itself apart from other gaming companies in this area.

This isn't the only recognition Capcom has received recently for its intellectual property work. Earlier this year, the company won another award from the Intellectual Property and Intangible Asset Governance Promotion Association. This organization recognized Capcom as one of the few Japanese companies maintaining high profitability and continuous growth through effective use of its intellectual properties.

The recognition comes at a good time for Capcom, which has been enjoying recent success with titles like Monster Hunter Wilds and popular remakes of their classic games. Monster Hunter Wilds, in particular, is doing very well, already at the top of the sales charts in the US and other markets.
