Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition Is Coming to Nintendo Switch 2 at Launch—No Downloads Needed

Cyberpunk 2077 is officially headed to the Nintendo Switch 2, and yep—it’ll be ready Day one, when the console launches on June 5. This marks a huge third-party win for Nintendo’s upcoming hardware, and fans have reason to get excited.

The Ultimate Edition includes both the base game and the Phantom Liberty expansion, and here’s the kicker: the physical version will come on a 64GB game cardno additional downloads required. That’s right, no “insert card, then wait hours for a patch” situation. CD Projekt Red’s VP of business development, Jan Rosner, confirmed the detail on social media and added that the game will retail for $70.

“The game will be distributed on a 64GB game card (containing the game and expansion, no download required), as well as via digital download from Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2,” Rosner wrote.

That’s especially welcome news considering as Nintendo revealed that not all physical games for the Switch 2 will actually contain the full game on the card. Some physical releases will instead use what Nintendo calls "Game-Key Cards," which essentially function as license keys that allow players to download the game from the eShop.

Performance-wise, there’s already been some hands-on reporting. According to Jason Schreier at Bloomberg, the game was running at 40 FPS in performance mode while docked. There’s no word yet on handheld frame rates, but with new tech under the hood, expectations are cautiously optimistic.

The game will take advantage of several unique Switch 2 features, including gyroscope controls for aiming, general motion controls, touchscreen inputs, and the new mouse functionality that Nintendo has introduced with the console.

This isn’t CDPR’s first rodeo with Nintendo hardware either. The studio previously pulled off the near-impossible by bringing The Witcher 3 to the original Switch—a technical feat that impressed even skeptical fans.

Of course, Cyberpunk 2077 didn’t exactly launch smoothly back in December 2020. The initial release was riddled with bugs, especially on older consoles, and even got pulled from the PlayStation Store for a time. But after years of updates—including the massive 2.0 overhaul and the Phantom Liberty expansion starring Idris Elba—the game’s reputation has done a full 180.

As of October 2024, the game had sold 30 million copies, with Phantom Liberty grabbing 8 million.

CDPR is clearly pumped for the Switch 2 launch, posting:

“We look forward to welcoming Nintendo players into the neon lights and firefights of Night City on June 5.”

Cyberpunk 2077 joins a growing list of Switch 2 launch titles, including Hazelight’s Split Fiction and Nintendo’s own Mario Kart World. Other big-name games confirmed for the platform—though not hitting day one—include Elden Ring, Hollow Knight: Silksong, IO Interactive’s James Bond game, and Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade.
