Sea of Thieves has just welcomed some stellar new guests from the Destiny 2 universe, bringing together Sony and Microsoft properties in an exciting gaming mashup. Players can now deck out their pirate adventures with space-themed goodies straight from the battle against the Darkness.
Here's everything new that this crossover brings to Sea of Thieves:
Ship Cosmetics (Lightbearer Ship Set):
Figurehead: A Ghost-inspired design, featuring the iconic floating companion from Destiny 2.
Sails: Three class-specific designs representing the Hunter, Titan, and Warlock subclasses from Destiny 2, each with unique patterns and colors tied to their respective themes.
Hull: A sleek, Destiny-inspired hull design with metallic and futuristic accents.
Flag: A customizable flag that ties into the Lightbearer theme, likely featuring Destiny iconography such as the Traveler or class symbols.
Cannon: A cannon design reflecting Destiny’s aesthetic, possibly with a sleek, weaponized look akin to Guardian tech.
Capstan: A capstan styled with Destiny flair, potentially incorporating elements like engrams or Light motifs.
Wheel: A ship’s wheel with a Destiny-inspired twist, blending pirate and sci-fi vibes.
Character Cosmetics:
Drifter Costume: A full-body costume based on the Drifter, a fan-favorite character from Destiny 2 known for his roguish charm and Gambit connections. It includes his signature trench coat and rugged look.
Emote: A unique emote tied to the Drifter costume, allowing players to perform a Destiny-inspired action.
Weapons:
Eye of Reach (Sniper Rifle): Modeled after the Whisper of the Worm, an exotic sniper rifle from Destiny 2, featuring its sleek, alien-inspired design.
Pistol: Styled after the Ace of Spades, Cayde-6’s iconic hand cannon, with its distinctive white-and-black finish and spade emblem.
Cutlass: Inspired by the Falling Guillotine, a heavy sword from Destiny 2, adapted into a pirate-friendly melee weapon with a Void energy aesthetic.
Blunderbuss: Based on the Tractor Cannon, a quirky Destiny 2 shotgun known for its knockback effect, reimagined as a scattershot weapon with a sci-fi twist.
These items are available for purchase in the Pirate Emporium, Sea of Thieves’ in-game store, using Ancient Coins (the premium currency). Some items may be bundled, such as the full Lightbearer Ship Collection, while others like the weapons and costume are likely sold separately.
This crossover coincides with Sea of Thieves' Season 15 launch and the March update, which also introduced practical features like hunting spears and ambient wildlife while improving overall performance.
The collaboration is particularly noteworthy as it connects two successful live-service games from competing console makers. Sea of Thieves, created by Microsoft's Rare studio, expanded to PlayStation 5 last year, while Destiny 2 has maintained its presence on Xbox despite developer Bungie being acquired by Sony.
Both games have demonstrated impressive staying power in the competitive live-service market, with Sea of Thieves reaching over 40 million players since its original launch and Destiny 2 continuing to evolve after its major narrative conclusion in The Final Shape.
While Destiny items have found their way into the pirate world, there's no word yet on whether Sea of Thieves elements might appear in Destiny 2 in the future.
