Rockstar Games’ first Grand Theft Auto VI trailer has passed 250 million views on YouTube. That puts it more than twice as popular as the company’s second-most-watched video — and it’s still climbing.
Originally slated for a December 5, 2023, debut at 9 AM ET, the trailer dropped early after leaking online, landing roughly 16 hours ahead of schedule. Turns out the early release didn’t hurt — it supercharged the hype. Within just 24 hours, the video racked up 93 million views, setting a new record for the most-watched non-music video in a single day on YouTube.
Since then, the trailer has been a juggernaut. It’s now the:
Most-viewed video game trailer in 24 hours
Most-liked game trailer in YouTube history
Most-viewed non-music video on day one
As of April 19, 2025, the trailer officially crossed the 250 million mark. For context, it hit 200 million views back in July 2024, meaning it’s added another 50 million in the nine months since.
Around the same time, it also passed 1 million YouTube comments, which honestly feels about right for the kind of chatter GTA fans generate.
Comparing it to Rockstar’s YouTube all-timers, the difference is night and day:
Yep, the GTA 6 trailer has more views than those four combined — about 15 million more, to be exact. And if you're keeping track, the trailer just marked its 500th day online. Not bad for a minute-and-a-half slice of Vice City.
So... Where’s the Second Trailer?
Fans have been hungry for another look at the game, but Rockstar’s been keeping things quiet. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick told Bloomberg that the publisher is intentionally playing the long game, aiming to build up “anticipation” by holding back new details until closer to launch.
For now, here’s what we do know:
GTA 6 will launch in late 2025
It’s coming exclusively to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S at launch
A PC version? Very likely, but still unconfirmed
Don’t expect it before September 23, 2025, which is when Take-Two drops Borderlands 4
Still Not the Most-Viewed Trailer Ever?
Believe it or not, GTA 6 still sits in second place on YouTube’s all-time game trailer leaderboard. That crown still belongs to... Subway Surfers. The endlessly-running mobile hit’s trailer, posted way back in 2012, has pulled in 361 million views over the years.
Here’s how the top YouTube game trailers stack up as of April 20, 2025:
Subway Surfers – Official Google Play – 361M
GTA 6 – First Trailer – 250M
Minecraft – 174M
Clash of Clans: Ride of the Hog Riders – 137M
Shadow Fight 2 – 128M
GTA 5 Trailer – 118M
Garena Free Fire – Kelly "La Veloz" – 95M
Team Fortress 2 – Meet the Medic – 94M
Marvel’s Spider-Man (2017 E3 Gameplay) – 90M
But with GTA 6 still months from release, and Rockstar’s radio silence only fueling curiosity, it’s entirely possible the trailer could eventually catch Subway Surfers. And you just know that when Trailer #2 finally drops, fans will be rewatching the first one like detectives hunting for hidden clues.
In short: this is shaping up to be one of the most-watched game rollouts ever.
