Hazelight Studios has already started working on its next game, just weeks after releasing their highly successful title Split Fiction. The development began approximately one month ago, according to studio head Josef Fares.

In a recent interview with the Friends Per Second podcast, Fares shared details about the studio's quick pivot to a new project. "Split Fiction is the best-received game we have done, everybody is super happy, but I'm so fully focused and excited on the next thing, that we've already started," Fares explained.

The new game is still in its very early stages of development. However, Fares revealed that they've already compiled around 130 pages of ideas for the game's story and some initial gameplay concepts. "It's mostly in the story, what's going to happen but a little bit in gameplay as well," he said. "It's kind of like, 'this is where we start, this is where we're going.'"

Split Fiction, which launched less than two weeks ago, has achieved remarkable success, selling an impressive 2 million copies in just one week. This achievement has significantly boosted morale at Hazelight Studios, creating an atmosphere of confidence and creativity.

According to Fares, the studio's success with Split Fiction has instilled a belief that they can surpass their previous accomplishments. "We just feel like, when we talk in the lunchroom or we talk to each other, we're like, 'Oh shit, we feel we can do better than this.' That's how confident we feel, and people are very happy and excited. It's a very happy place, Hazelight," he shared during the podcast.

Hazelight Studios has established itself as a developer known for creating unique cooperative gaming experiences. Their previous titles include A Way Out (2018) and the critically acclaimed It Takes Two (2021), which won numerous Game of the Year awards. Split Fiction continues this tradition with its cooperative storytelling approach.

While specific details about the upcoming game remain scarce, the studio's track record suggests fans can expect another innovative experience that pushes the boundaries of cooperative gameplay. Based on their previous release schedule, with games launching approximately every 3/4 years, this new title might potentially be targeted for a 2027-2028 release.
