Hollow Knight: Silksong Confirmed for Both OG Switch and Switch 2

Hollow Knight: Silksong

Hollow Knight: Silksong will be playable on both the original Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Switch 2, according to a recent confirmation from Team Cherry's Marketing and PR Director.

After a long period with little information, news about the highly anticipated Metroidvania sequel has started to emerge following its appearance during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct presentation.

Team Cherry's Matthew Griffin took to Twitter on April 7 to clarify that owners of the original Switch won't need to upgrade their hardware to enjoy the sequel. "OG Switch owners will still get the game when it launches," Griffin stated, bringing relief to many fans who were concerned about compatibility.

According to the recent Nintendo Switch 2 presentation, Hollow Knight: Silksong is scheduled for release in 2025, though a specific date hasn't been announced yet.

This confirmation isn't entirely surprising since the original Hollow Knight was also available on the Switch platform. However, the official statement comes at a welcome time as many players have expressed concerns about the pricing of the Switch 2 console and its games. Having the option to play on existing hardware will undoubtedly be appreciated by those hesitant to upgrade.

Beyond Nintendo platforms, Hollow Knight: Silksong will also be available on Xbox, PlayStation, and Steam. Additionally, the game will be accessible through GeForce Now. Xbox Game Pass subscribers will have day-one access to the title without an additional purchase.
