According to a recent report by News18, the Cyber Security Division of the Indian Government has recommended suspending the Indian version of PUBG Mobile, Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), in the country.
This recommendation comes amidst concerns over crimes allegedly related to the game, which have caught the authorities' attention.
What Led to the Potential Ban?
BGMI is always a controversial game in India, as the game faced many bans in the past.
With gaming addiction to privacy concerns, BGMI has been under the govt scrutiny for several reasons and faces tight restrictions.
One of the main reasons is its Chinese connections as Krafton had moved its data to servers located in China, raising privacy concerns.
That's why it's faced banned in 2022 which was lifted in May 2023, after Krafton promised to move its servers from China and big investment in Indian esports.
At that time, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the Union Minister of State for Electronics & Technology, had stated that the game had been granted provisional approval for a three-month trial period by the Indian government.
And now nearly 10 months later, it looks like the game is again in trouble.
The report indicates that a meeting is scheduled for the following week, where Krafton, the game's developer, will present their case to central agencies regarding the continuation of BGMI's operations in India.
If BGMI faces another ban in India, it could have significant implications for the country's gaming industry.
The game has amassed a massive following with over 100 million active users, and its removal could leave a void in the mobile gaming market.
Additionally, it could potentially impact the growth and development of the esports scene in India, as BGMI has been a popular title in competitive gaming tournaments.
The news is currently in development so Stay tuned for more updates.
