Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Is Selling Faster on PlayStation Than on Steam or Xbox

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has officially launched on PlayStation consoles last week and is already showing strong sales. Developed by MachineGames, the game first debuted on Xbox and PC in December 2024, and now, just four months later, it has expanded to PS5 with encouraging results.

According to estimates from Alinea, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle sold around 117,200 copies on PS5 within the first six days after launch. In comparison, the game had sold 91,200 copies on Steam during the same post-launch period. This shows the game is selling about 28% faster on PlayStation despite the original marketing push having passed.

Reports indicate that although almost 5 million Xbox players have experienced the game, most of them did so through Game Pass rather than buying it. On the other hand, PS5 players are directly purchasing the game, which could explain the stronger sales numbers.

The data also highlights "the type of players" attracted to Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on PlayStation. As per reports by Alinea, a significant number of players have also played narrative-driven adventure games like Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, Spider-Man 2, and Batman: Arkham Knight. Other popular titles among this audience include Hogwarts Legacy and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, showing a strong preference for story-focused games based on established franchises.

Xbox’s decision to bring Indiana Jones and the Great Circle to PlayStation is part of a larger trend of Xbox first-party games expanding to other platforms. Industry analysts suggest that this strategy is likely to continue, especially since subscription growth for services like Game Pass has slowed. Premium sales on platforms like PlayStation and Steam are proving to be a more stable revenue source.

Steam sales for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle have also been solid, crossing 310,000 copies and generating around $17.5 million in revenue. Price drops earlier this year led to noticeable boosts in sales, and with over 1.5 million wishlists on Steam, it is expected that future discounts will further drive purchases.

Industry experts believe that if the game had launched on all platforms at the same time, its PlayStation sales could have been even higher. Xbox is reportedly analyzing these results carefully and may move closer to simultaneous cross-platform launches for future first-party titles.

The upcoming "DOOM: The Dark Ages," scheduled to launch on May 15, will be available on PS5 the same day it releases on Xbox.
