Infinity Nikki has just launched its biggest update yet, ushering players into the enchanting Sea of Stars and introducing multiplayer gameplay for the first time in series' history.
Version 1.5, known as Bubble Season, also marks the game's debut on Steam, expanding its reach to even more players.
In this major update, players will join Nikki on a journey to the Sea of Stars, described by developer Infold Games as "the place where everything began."
The update introduces several new areas to explore, including Serenity Island and the Dream Star Isles, where players will uncover secrets about Nikki's sudden appearance in Miraland.
According to Infold Games, the Sea of Stars is a mystical location called "the beginning and end of all things." During her adventures there, Nikki will encounter different versions of herself from various worlds, all heading toward this enigmatic place.
Fashion enthusiasts will be delighted to know that Nikki's iconic purple starry dress, named after the new region, can be unlocked in this version. The update also introduces new clothing customization options, including the ability to unlock new colors for outfits after "glowing them up" and a new dyeing system for existing outfits.
For players concerned about in-game currency, Infold has stated that Version 1.5 will allow players to earn "the equivalent of a total of 100 pulls."
Perhaps the most exciting addition is the new cooperative multiplayer feature. As Nina Zhou from the Infinity Nikki Operation Management Team explains, "By ringing the Starbell—a magical item that illuminates your location—nearby players can follow its chime to meet up. Friends can even teleport instantly to each other's side, forging bonds through the power of Whim."
This cooperative play allows two players to explore together, with synchronized movements like jumping, gliding, or floating across the skies of Miraland. You can also pose for in-game photos.
However, the team notes that multiplayer is currently limited to the Sea of Stars and select zones, with plans to expand based on player feedback.
The development of Infinity Nikki represents a significant evolution for the Nikki series.
Unlike previous games in the series, Infinity Nikki takes inspiration from Nintendo-style platforming and open-world exploration similar to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The development team, which includes former Nintendo Director Kentaro Tominaga, has created a relaxed, non-combat-focused experience that serves as a sanctuary for players.
Clara Wang from the Infinity Nikki IP Team shared that the idea for the game emerged during the pandemic, a "time of uncertainty." The team wanted to create a journey of reconciliation, focusing on "elegant styling and stunning environmental details" rather than combat, encouraging players to "find peace and beauty through exploration."
Looking ahead, Jude Li from the Character Team hinted at future updates featuring "landscapes inspired by diverse global aesthetics," with clothing designs ranging from "elegant and cozy robes" to "futuristic fashion-forward pieces."
While not arriving in Version 1.5, a highly anticipated housing feature is planned for this summer, allowing players to build dream homes and grow crops.
The Infinity Nikki Version 1.5 update is now available on PlayStation 5, Epic Games Store, iOS, and Android, including the game's first-ever release on Steam.
With its combination of story expansion, multiplayer features, and new customization options, this update represents the most significant evolution of the game since its launch five months ago.
