Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Getting Tough New Hardcore Mode Next Week

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is about to get much harder with the addition of a new Hardcore Mode coming next week. This challenging new mode will remove many helpful features from the game, forcing players to rely on their wits and skills to survive in the medieval world.

The new mode, which will arrive as a free update in the third week of April 2025, removes convenience features like fast travel and map markers. Players will need to navigate the world without these aids, making exploration much more difficult and realistic.

According to Warhorse Studios, the developers behind the popular medieval RPG, Hardcore Mode isn't just slightly more challenging - it completely transforms the gameplay experience.

Saving your game will become a strategic decision in Hardcore Mode. The auto-save feature will be disabled, meaning players must use Saviour Schnapps, sleep at an inn, visit bathhouses, or quit the game to save their progress.

The user interface will also be dramatically reduced. Health and stamina indicators will be barely visible, and combat will become more punishing with no timing prompts or directional cues to help players.

The in-game economy receives adjustments too. Merchants will pay less for items players sell, while repairs will cost more, making the medieval peasant life even more challenging.

One of the most interesting aspects of the new mode is the addition of negative perks. Players will be forced to choose 2-3 permanent disabilities for their character. These perks include:

  • Numbskull

  • Somnambulant

  • Bad Back

  • Picky Eater

  • Bashful

  • Sweaty

  • Menace

  • Hangry Henry

  • Punchable Face

  • Heavy Footed

While the exact effects aren't fully explained, their names suggest impacts on intelligence, carrying capacity, social interactions, and other gameplay elements.

For players who find certain aspects of Hardcore Mode too punishing, there is good news. Mod support will allow toggling specific Hardcore elements on or off, creating a customized challenge level.

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 has been a major success since its February release, selling 2 million copies in just two weeks. The game has received several updates already, including the addition of a barber mode to the open-world medieval RPG.
