Krafton Declares BGMI India's "National Game" After Triumphant Relaunch

It's been nearly a year since Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) made its long-awaited comeback after an 8-month ban in India. 

Since its triumphant return, players have been overjoyed to reunite with their squadmates and dive back into the intense last-man-standing action that BGMI is loved for.

But with the initial excitement settling down, many have wondered - how has BGMI actually performed business-wise since its celebrated return? 

Big Money Rolling In

According to developer Krafton's recent financial reports, BGMI has managed to generate close to $74 million in revenue over the 10 months since its relaunch up to February 2024. 

This contributed heavily to Krafton's total Q4 2023 earnings of $257 million, with a whopping 84% coming straight from Asia - meaning BGMI's India re-entry has been a massive boon.

"National Game for Indians"

Given the incredible response so far, Krafton's CEO Chang-Han Kim labeled BGMI as the "national game for Indians". 

He doubled down on long-term plans to evolve BGMI into a "service that will grow for 10 years" in the country through expanding their gaming portfolio. 

Krafton seems determined to cement itself as India's foremost gaming publisher.

Major Investments & Esports Focus

Krafton's India plans for the coming years revolve around

Krafton is also focused on further establishing BGMI as an esports juggernaut in India.

Exploring In-Game Ads

Thanks to Indian mobile gamers' "high average revenue per user", BGMI is even considering incorporating in-game advertisements moving forward, according to CFO Dong-Keun Bae. 

This could provide a lucrative additional revenue stream.

Krafton is doubling down on India with long-term plans for BGMI and a laser focus on sealing its publishing dominance in the country. 

And for local players who just want their beloved battle royale fix, BGMI's exhilarating return is a major win.
