Krafton Changes BGMI Game Name on Google Play Store Amid Legal Battle

BGMI

Krafton India has changed the name of its popular battle royale game from "Battlegrounds Mobile India" to "BGMI: Online Multiplayer Game" on the Google Play Store as of April 15. This change happened at the same time as an important legal case involving the company, making people wonder if the two events are connected.

While the game is now called "BGMI" on the Play Store, Krafton's official website still shows the full name "Battlegrounds Mobile India." This kind of difference is normal when companies are updating their branding, but the timing of this change has caught attention because it matches with a Bombay High Court hearing on April 15 about a lawsuit against Krafton.

The legal trouble started with a police report filed in September 2024. According to the report, Krafton India and four of its top executives were accused of sharing and making money from user data without permission, supposedly charging ₹2,000 per user. The charges include criminal conspiracy, cheating, and breaking rules under the Information Technology Act, 2000.

Krafton has firmly denied these serious claims. The company has stated that it takes data security very seriously and is waiting for the legal process to finish before making more comments about the situation.

Many people are trying to figure out why the name changed right when the court hearing happened. Some think Krafton might be trying to distance the game from its full name while facing legal problems. Others believe it could simply be a regular update to strengthen the "BGMI" nickname that players already use widely.

So far, Krafton hasn't released any official statement explaining why they changed the name.
