After months of mystery, we finally have a release date: Mafia: The Old Country drops on August 8, 2025, as confirmed in a recent Steam blog post.
The game was first introduced in August at the Gamescom Opening Night Live ceremony, followed by a more detailed trailer in December 2024 during The Game Awards.
This release adds to Take-Two's busy schedule, with Mafia: The Old Country, Borderlands 4, and GTA 6 all expected to launch within a few months of each other.
The Steam post also mentions an upcoming livestream at PAX on May 8, where developers will discuss the franchise's 23-year journey, covering its past, present, and future.
At the bottom of the post, it clearly states:
"Mafia: The Old Country is available August 8, 2025. Pre-order now for PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam."
Mafia: The Old Country will take players back to the early 1900s in Sicily, exploring the origins of organized crime. The game promises to deliver a brutal, intriguing, and visually impressive experience. Development is being handled by Hangar 13, the studio behind Mafia III, Mafia: Definitive Edition, and somewhat surprisingly, TopSpin 2K25.
This release will be the first mainline entry in the beloved Mafia series since Mafia III launched in 2016. Over the years, the franchise has built a loyal following and impressive sales numbers, having sold over 35 million units globally. Mafia III remains the best-selling installment with over 7 million units sold, while Mafia: Definitive Edition—a 2020 remake of the original—has surpassed 1.5 million copies sold on Steam alone.
