Minecraft Movie Raking Money — Look What Records This Video Game Adaptation Just Broke!

Jason Mamoa in minecraft movie, money fall

Gamers, we just witnessed history. The Minecraft Movie isn’t just good — it’s straight-up printing money.

In its opening weekend alone, A Minecraft Movie raked in a jaw-dropping $301 million globally, making it the biggest opening weekend EVER for a video game movie in the U.S. It crushed The Super Mario Bros. Movie’s $146.4 million debut by pulling in $157 million domestically. That’s wild.

And it’s not just killing it at home — internationally, it pulled $144 million across 75 markets. That makes it the second-biggest global launch for a video game adaptation, just behind Mario. And Japan and South Korea haven’t even gotten it yet. It’s not slowing down.

Even the preview night numbers hit hard, bringing in $10.55 million — beating out Five Nights at Freddy’s.

And with a release across 4,263 U.S. theaters, it’s now the widest release for any video game movie ever.

Not bad for a movie about punching trees and crafting blocks.

We all knew Minecraft had the reach — over 300 million copies sold since 2011, and an entire generation raised on Redstone and Creeper jumpscares. But nobody expected the movie to be this massive.

The cast didn’t hurt either. Jack Black, Jason Momoa, and Jennifer Coolidge brought the heat, helping the movie pull in not just gamers, but families and casual fans too. With a $150 million budget, it already paid for itself in three days.

So yeah — Minecraft didn’t just build a movie. It built a box office empire. 💰
