Lionsgate and Hasbro have selected John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein to write the screenplay for their upcoming Monopoly movie. The writing duo, known for their work on the well-received "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves," will bring their creative talents to this board game adaptation.

According to Deadline, Daley and Goldstein have officially joined the project based on Hasbro's classic board game. The pair's impressive writing resume also includes "Spider-Man: Homecoming," establishing them as skilled adapters of popular intellectual properties.

Beyond their writing, the duo have also established themselves as successful directors in the action-comedy genre. Their next project, "Mayday," starring Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh, will premiere on Apple TV+ later this year.

The film will be produced by Margot Robbie's production company, LuckyChap Entertainment, in partnership with Hasbro Entertainment. Lionsgate secured the development rights to Monopoly when it purchased eOne in December 2023.

The project carries significant potential, as Monopoly stands as the world's most popular board game. Available in over 100 countries, the game has sold nearly half a billion copies since its introduction in 1935, reports indicate.

James Myers will oversee the project for Lionsgate, with Robert Melnik handling the negotiation of deals for the studio.

This Monopoly adaptation joins another gaming-related project in LuckyChap's portfolio. Last year, the production company announced it was developing a film adaptation of Electronic Arts' popular life-simulation series "The Sims."
