Monster Hunter fans are hyped! Rumors are flying that Onimusha might be the first big crossover for Monster Hunter Wilds, possibly arriving with the game’s May update.
As noted by The Gamer, Onimusha would fit right into the Monster Hunter world. Both games feature intense battles against powerful enemies—whether it’s Genma demons or massive monsters. Plus, Onimusha’s samurai-style weapons, like the Long Sword, Great Sword, and Insect Glaive, would blend seamlessly with Monster Hunter’s combat.
The Big Clue: Capcom’s Mysterious Collab
During the Monster Hunter Wilds Showcase on March 25, Capcom shared a roadmap that hinted at an upcoming crossover. A smaller update (Version 1.011) is set for late May 2025, and it includes an unannounced “Capcom collab.” While nothing is confirmed yet, the signs strongly point to Onimusha.
Perfect Timing for Onimusha’s Return
There’s another reason this crossover seems likely—Onimusha is making a comeback! The remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny launches on May 23, 2025, and a brand-new mainline entry, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, is set for 2026.
With the series returning, a Monster Hunter collaboration could be the perfect way to get fans excited again. Despite being out of the spotlight for years, Onimusha is still one of Capcom’s top 10 best-selling franchises.

Other Possible Crossovers?
If Onimusha isn’t the first collab, there are plenty of other Capcom franchises that could take the spotlight. Some fans are hoping for a Viewtiful Joe crossover, especially with rumors of a reboot. Others are dreaming about Darkstalkers, Breath of Fire, or even Dino Crisis making an appearance. And let’s not forget about the Mega Man series, which still has plenty of untapped potential for a Monster Hunter crossover.
Monster Hunter’s Collab History
Monster Hunter is no stranger to epic crossovers. Past events have featured Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, Okami, Street Fighter, and Mega Man, along with non-Capcom properties like The Witcher 3 and Final Fantasy 16. Fans have high expectations, but Capcom has a solid track record when it comes to collaborations.
Wilds is Already Breaking Records
No matter which franchise gets the first collab, one thing’s for sure—Monster Hunter Wilds is killing it. The game sold over 10 million copies in its first month, putting it on track to become Capcom’s best-selling premium game ever. That record is currently held by Monster Hunter: World with 21 million sales, but at this pace, Wilds might shatter that soon.
The update drops at the end of May 2025, so we won’t have to wait much longer to find out which Capcom legend joins the hunt!
