Nintendo Switch 2 to Launch in Three Phases – Here’s the Timeline

Nintendo is gearing up for the launch of its next-generation console, Switch 2. According to a new report, the company has a well-structured three-phase plan for launching games alongside the console’s release, ensuring a steady flow of titles throughout the year.

According to Insider Gaming, the first phase will coincide with the console’s launch in June 2025 and primarily feature first-party Nintendo games. Among the expected titles is a new Mario Kart installment, which was teased during the first trailer of the console. Other potential games include a new Zelda or a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

The second phase will roll out around October or November, bringing third-party games into the mix. Reports suggest that many third-party developers are expecting to receive their development kits for the Switch 2 this June, giving them time to prepare their games for this window. Historically, Nintendo has partnered with several well-known studios to expand its game library, so this phase is likely to bring a diverse range of titles catering to different gaming preferences.

Finally, the third phase is planned for the holiday season, a crucial period for the gaming industry. By this time, Nintendo aims to have a strong lineup of games to boost sales during the peak shopping months. The strategy resembles Nintendo’s approach in 2017 when it released major hits like Super Mario Odyssey and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 towards the end of the year to drive console sales.

In addition to this strategy, select media outlets and gaming influencers will get an early hands-on experience with the Nintendo Switch 2. These exclusive sessions will offer a closer look at the console’s capabilities and its first-wave games ahead of the public release.

The upcoming Nintendo Direct on April 2 is expected to reveal more details about the console, including its hardware specifications, official release date, and pricing. Speculation suggests that the Nintendo Switch 2 could be priced around $400, reflecting improvements in performance and features over its predecessor.
