Blizzard has officially unveiled an exciting crossover event between Overwatch 2 and the legendary anime series Gundam Wing, giving players a chance to suit up in mecha-inspired style.
The limited-time collaboration will run from April 29 to May 13, 2025, offering two weeks of Gundam-themed cosmetics, challenges, and special rewards.
Suit Up for Battle: Gundam Wing Comes to Overwatch 2
Announced just weeks after Blizzard’s Season 16 reveal — which introduced the new Stadium Mode and Damage Hero Freja — the Gundam Wing crossover brings some of the anime’s most iconic mechs to the Overwatch battlefield.
A new gameplay trailer showcases the transformation in action, with four Overwatch heroes receiving full Gundam-themed skins:
Mercy as Wing Gundam Zero
Ramattra as Epyon
Soldier: 76 as Tallgeese
Reaper as Deathscythe
In addition to these skins, players can unlock event-exclusive rewards by completing special challenges, including the Shinigami title and the Zero System spray.
The Legacy of Gundam Wing
For those less familiar, Gundam Wing is a key chapter in the larger Mobile Suit Gundam franchise, which began in 1979.
Gundam Wing focuses on five young pilots fighting to free Earth from an oppressive government, combining political intrigue, coming-of-age storytelling, and thrilling mech battles — elements that continue to inspire generations of fans worldwide.
Interestingly, Bandai Namco tried to create its own Overwatch-style hero shooter, using characters from Gundam in a game called Gundam Evolution. This game launched in 2022 but was shut down in November 2023, just over a year after its release.
Behind the Collaboration
In an interview with Comicbook.com, Overwatch 2 Art Director Dion Rogers explained how the team carefully paired heroes with Gundam suits:
"Characters like Mercy, because of her wings, it's just a big tell on her. This is the first skin where we fully replaced Mercy. You don't actually see her skin, her face is gone. But her wings allow us to be that transformative with her because the wings are always there."
Meanwhile, GameSpot reported that Bandai provided valuable insights by sharing Gunpla sales rankings to help Blizzard choose the most fan-favorite Gundam models. Associate Director of Product Management Aimee Dennett clarified:
"They didn’t mandate we do anything. It was all suggestions, but they did share a ranking of Gunpla sales and that did factor into the equation."
Event Details and Pricing
When the event kicks off on April 29, players will find the four Gundam-inspired skins available for purchase in the in-game shop:
Individual bundles (skin, matching sprays, Play of the Game animations) will cost 2,800 Overwatch Coins each
A full event bundle containing everything will be available for 5,900 coins
Additionally, players can unlock free Gundam-themed rewards through special event challenges — including a limited-time Pachimari weapon charm.
