Atlus is doubling down on remakes over new mainline Persona entries—and for good reason. Their latest remake, Persona 3 Reload, sold over one million copies in its first week, becoming the fastest-selling title in franchise history.
Now, fresh rumors suggest a Persona 4 remake is on the horizon, with a possible announcement in June 2025. While many fans are eagerly waiting for Persona 6 news, it seems Atlus might surprise everyone with another trip down memory lane.
Domain Leaks and Pattern Recognition Spark Speculation
Rumors surrounding a Persona 4 remake have been swirling since early 2024, but they gained significant traction in March 2025 after the discovery of a newly registered Japanese domain: p4re.jp. This follows a familiar pattern—Atlus registered p3re.jp three months before officially revealing Persona 3 Reload.
Adding fuel to the speculation, Spanish YouTuber Extas1s—a known leaker with a solid track record, particularly regarding Microsoft news—claims that Persona 4 Remake will be unveiled at the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase on June 8.
According to the leaker, the game will launch on Xbox Game Pass on day one, following the same successful release strategy used for Persona 3 Reload and Persona 5 Tactica.
A Late 2025 or Early 2026 Release Likely
Atlus has a history of releasing new titles within a year of their announcements. Persona 5 Tactica launched just five months after it was revealed, while Persona 3 Reload arrived eight months post-announcement. If Persona 4 Remake is announced in June, a holiday 2025 or early 2026 release seems likely.
As with recent Atlus releases, the remake will reportedly be multi-platform, expected to launch on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Atlus has moved away from platform exclusivity in recent years, aiming to reach a broader global audience.
Persona 6 Still Missing in Action
While a Persona 4 remake is exciting for longtime fans, many are understandably disappointed by the continued silence on Persona 6.
Despite being one of the most anticipated JRPGs of the decade, the last official update on Persona 6 came in July 2021, when Atlus simply confirmed it was "in development." Since then, no new details have surfaced.
Why a Persona 4 Remake Makes Sense
Originally released in 2008, Persona 4 has cultivated a passionate fanbase thanks to its emotional storytelling, memorable characters, and a blend of high school life with supernatural mystery. Despite being lighter in tone than Persona 3’s focus on death, it emphasizes friendship and small-town life, though it tackles heavy topics like grief and identity.
A modern remake would introduce a new generation of players to Inaba’s dark secrets, backed by improved visuals, quality-of-life features, and potentially reimagined gameplay mechanics.
With the franchise's total catalog reaching 24 titles—including spinoffs, remakes, and expansions—and over 23.5 million units sold worldwide (according to Sega Sammy financial reports), Atlus has every reason to keep revisiting its classics while fine-tuning its future.
Persona 4 is itself a success, with 2.4 million units sold of the original game and its expansion, Golden, by 2024.
If the rumors hold true, June 2025 could be a big month for Persona fans—especially those eager to dive back into the fog-covered streets of Inaba.
