Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has reaffirmed Xbox’s commitment to supporting the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, calling Nintendo “a great partner” and highlighting the importance of reaching new players through diverse platforms.
"We've been supporting Switch 1, I want to support Switch 2," Spencer said in an interview with Variety. "Nintendo’s consoles provide a unique way for us to reach players who aren’t PC players, who aren’t players on Xbox."
Xbox Titles on the Horizon
The Switch 2, scheduled to launch on June 5, is already generating excitement with reports that several Microsoft titles—including Flight Simulator and Halo: The Master Chief Collection—could land on the platform in 2025.
Further, past reports suggest that Sea of Thieves, Starfield, and other first-party titles could make their way to the Switch 2—mirroring Microsoft’s recent multiplatform strategy that brought games like Sea of Thieves and Forza Horizon 5 to PlayStation.
Additionally, Microsoft agreed to a 10-year deal in 2022 to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo devices after its acquisition of Activision Blizzard was completed in October 2023. With the Switch 2 expected to feature upgraded hardware, many expect the iconic shooter franchise to finally launch on Nintendo’s ecosystem.
A Platform-Agnostic Future
Spencer emphasized the bigger vision behind Xbox's approach: "It lets us continue to grow our community of people that care about the franchises that we have, and that’s really important for us to make sure we continue to invest in our games."
This philosophy isn’t new. In November 2024, Spencer publicly stated there was “nothing stopping” Xbox games from coming to Nintendo or PlayStation. And in January 2025, he confirmed via Gamertag Radio that Microsoft would support the Switch 2, even noting he had exchanged messages with Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa following the console’s early teasers.
When asked if Nintendo’s reveal puts pressure on Xbox to unveil new hardware, Spencer dismissed the idea: “I think all of us in this industry should focus on our communities and the player base that we’re building.”
Anticipation Builds for Switch 2
The Nintendo Switch 2 is already generating buzz, despite some early delays related to import tariffs. Retailers in the U.S. are expected to open pre-orders next week, and despite a 50% costlier than the original and a $80 price point for games, anticipation remains sky-high.
