Which Phones Will No Longer Support BGMI After the Next Update?

Man with shattered mobile Phone in hand as this phone Will No Longer Support BGMI

Are you a die-hard BGMI mobile gamer? If so, you'll want to pay attention to the latest announcement from developer Krafton. With the upcoming BGMI version 3.1 update, certain older Android phones and iPhones/iPads will be blocked from running the game.

What Android Devices Are Affected?

BGMI is dropping support for devices running Android 4.4 KitKat or lower versions. Since KitKat was released way back in 2013, this change likely won't impact too many current users still gaming on ancient hardware from a decade ago.

What iOS Devices Will Be Incompatible?

On the Apple side, any iPhone or iPad still stuck on iOS 10 or earlier will no longer be able to play Battlegrounds Mobile India after version 3.1. Again, this probably eliminates a relatively small number of active players using centuries-old technology like the iPhone 5s from 2013.

Why Is Support Being Dropped for Older Operating Systems?

It's standard practice for game developers to eventually phase out compatibility with ancient operating system versions. Continuing to maintain code for long-outdated systems becomes increasingly difficult over time. Krafton cited a need to "keep up with updates and new features" as the reason for this latest policy change.

What Can You Do If Your Device Is Affected?

For those still stubbornly clinging to a prehistoric Android 4.4 or iOS 10 device in 2024 - first of all, kudos on making that hardware last a decade! But now it's time to bite the bullet and upgrade if you want to keep enjoying BGMI's battle royale action.

See if your device can update to a newer OS version. If not, you'll need to get a shiny new smartphone or tablet running modern software to ensure BGMI compatibility going forward. C'mon, treat yourself!

The upcoming 3.1 update is expected to be available on Android and iOS devices at the end of March.
