Ubisoft is set to launch Rainbow Six Siege X on June 10, 2025, delivering the most significant update in the game’s history since its 2015 debut. Revealed during a special showcase in Atlanta, this massive overhaul aims to modernize and extend the tactical shooter’s lifespan for another decade.
Game director Joshua Mills emphasized that Siege X is more than just a content update—it’s a foundational rebuild designed to evolve core systems, enhance visuals, and introduce new features that keep Siege competitive in the current gaming landscape.
Key Features in Rainbow Six Siege X
New 6v6 Mode: Dual Front
Siege’s tactical combat expands with Dual Front, a permanent 6v6 game mode that increases team sizes from the traditional 5v5. Played on a large new map called "District", this mode challenges teams to attack enemy sectors while defending their own, with in-match events and respawn mechanics offering new strategic possibilities.
Revamped Movement: Enhanced Rappelling
Mobility gets a major upgrade with sprint-enabled rappelling, allowing players to move faster, turn corners mid-air, and enter rappel points dynamically while sprinting.
Next-Generation Audio System
A fully rebuilt audio engine addresses long-standing community requests, improving sound clarity and enhancing tactical depth. Expect more precise audio cues, making every movement and explosion feel more immersive.
Interactive Destruction: "Destructible Ingredients"
Ubisoft is introducing "destructible ingredients"—interactive environmental objects that players can shoot or trigger for strategic advantages. This includes fire extinguishers, gas pipes, and metal detectors, allowing for new paths, distractions, and dynamic gameplay opportunities. More interactive elements are expected in future updates.
Map Modernization & 4K Textures
Five classic maps—Kafe, Club House, Chalet, Border, and Bank—will be modernized at launch with:
✅ Updated lighting & shadows
✅ Double the texture resolution
✅ Optional 4K texture pack (PC)
Three additional maps will be updated each season following launch.
New Anti-Cheat & Player Protection: R6 Shield Guard
To tackle cheating and toxic behavior, Ubisoft is rolling out "R6 Shield Guard," a comprehensive security and moderation system aimed at improving cheat detection and fostering a better player experience.
Siege Goes Free-to-Play
Starting Year 10, Season 2, Siege will transition to a free-to-play model:
✅ Casual modes (Dual Front, Quickplay, onboarding playlists) will be free
✅ Progression unlocks up to 26 Operators (starting with 10)
✅ Competitive and Siege Cup modes remain premium
✅ Existing players retain all content & receive exclusive veteran rewards
Additional Features Coming in Siege X
🔹 First-person shadows & enemy operator outlines for better visibility
🔹 New communication wheel, similar to Overwatch’s ping system
🔹 Weapon inspection feature to showcase loadouts
🔹 Reworked operator ban phase for deeper pre-match strategy
🔹 Siege X Pack ($39.99) with exclusive content, including:
Animated weapon 556XI skin
2,670 R6 Credits
Immediate access to 12 Operators
Exclusive Ash Bundle & charm
These updates build on the Operation Prep Phase (Y10S1) update from March 4, 2025, which introduced attacker Rauora, her D.O.M. Panel gadget, and dynamic matchmaking improvements.

Siege X: A Revolution, Not a Sequel
Rather than launching a sequel, Ubisoft is positioning Siege X as a transformative evolution, preserving the game’s core identity while modernizing mechanics, visuals, and accessibility.
With launch day approaching, more details may emerge—but will these changes be enough to bring back lapsed players and attract a new generation of Siege fans?
