Rare's popular pirate adventure game Sea of Thieves will soon be available on Blizzard Entertainment's Battle.net PC launcher. This move represents another step in Microsoft's strategy to bring more Xbox first-party titles to different PC platforms.

Players can now pre-order Sea of Thieves on Battle.net in three different versions. The Premium Edition, priced at $60, includes special cosmetic items allowing players to customize their ships with themes from popular Blizzard franchises like Diablo, Overwatch, and Warcraft.

Xbox Play Anywhere support means that people who already own Sea of Thieves on Xbox consoles or have an active Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass subscription can play the standard edition through Battle.net without paying extra.

According to the announcement, the game will launch on Battle.net on May 22, 2025.

The game has built a substantial player base, reaching 40 million players across Xbox and PC platforms before its PlayStation 5 release last year.

Battle.net launcher was historically used exclusively for Activision Blizzard games on Windows PC. However, this approach has changed significantly in recent months as Microsoft explores bringing more games from Xbox Game Studios and Bethesda Softworks to the platform.

The trend began with Obsidian Entertainment's Avowed, which launched simultaneously on Battle.net, Xbox Series X|S consoles, the Xbox PC app, and Steam. The positive reception to this approach has apparently encouraged Microsoft to continue the strategy.

Reports indicate that more Xbox titles are planned for the launcher, including id Software's upcoming DOOM: The Dark Ages and Obsidian's The Outer Worlds 2, both scheduled to launch on Battle.net alongside other platforms.
