Sonic Rumble's First Crossover Event Launches Before Global Release

Sonic Rumble, the new Sonic the Hedgehog game, will finally launch globally on May 8th after being available in select regions (e.g., the Philippines, Peru, Colombia) since last year.

Before its worldwide release, the game has introduced its first-ever crossover event featuring characters from classic Sega franchises.

The "Sega Superstars x Sonic Rumble" crossover event is currently live and will run until May 7th, just one day before the global launch.

The event gives all players a free Werewolf skin from the classic game Altered Beast. Players can also collect other characters including AiAi and MeeMee from Super Monkey Ball, Opa-Opa and Upa-Upa from Fantasy Zone, as well as Weredragon and Werebear from Altered Beast.

Some of these characters are available through different methods. The Werewolf skin is free for all players, while Weredragon and Opa-Opa can only be obtained by purchasing the premium Sega Stars Event Pass. Other characters like Upa-Upa, Werebear, AiAi, and MeeMee are available through the in-game Ring Shop and Red Ring Shop.

Sega has confirmed that players who unlock these crossover characters during the event will keep them after the global launch.

The decision to run this popular crossover event before the global launch has left many fans disappointed. Last month, Sega assured fans that "many" of the special costumes from Sonic Rumble will be available again after the global launch. However, many players from North America feel frustrated about missing out on current content.

Nonetheless, Sega already hinted at more crossover events post-launch, with potential franchises like Jet Set Radio, Shinobi, or Samba de Amigo speculated by fans, though no specifics were confirmed.

Sonic Rumble will be available on mobile devices (iOS and Android) as well as PC via Steam and Google Play Games when it launches globally on May 8th. Until then, most fans will simply have to wait patiently for their chance to join the action.
