Sony Pulling Resistance Games From PlayStation Plus, Leaves Fans Without Access to Classics

Sony is reportedly removing over 20 titles from its PlayStation Plus service on May 20.
The most shocking aspect of this clean-up is the removal of Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2, two first-party PlayStation 3 shooters developed by Insomniac Games.Â
What makes this decision particularly alarming is that these games are no longer available for purchase on the PlayStation Store, meaning PlayStation Plus Premium was the final option for playing them on PS4 or PS5 without owning physical discs and a PS3 console.
Push Square reports that both Resistance titles are being removed less than a year after they were added to the service in late 2024.
While Sony regularly removes third-party games from PlayStation Plus as licensing agreements expire, it's unusual for the company to pull its own first-party titles from the subscription service.
This isn't entirely without precedent, however. In August 2024, Sony shocked subscribers by removing both Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon: Forbidden West from PlayStation Plus. The key difference was that those games remained available for separate purchase, unlike the Resistance titles which will now be completely inaccessible on modern PlayStation consoles.
Adding to the first-party exodus is InFamous: Second Son, another Sony-owned title being removed in the same May update. While this PS4 game remains purchasable outside the subscription, its removal alongside the Resistance titles signals a concerning pattern regarding Sony's commitment to preserving access to its back catalog.
Interestingly, not all Resistance games are being removed – Resistance 3 and Resistance: Retribution will remain on the service, creating an incomplete collection of the series.
The timing of these removals coincides with recent PlayStation Plus price increases across multiple regions and PS5 console price hikes in several markets.
For fans of these first-party classics, particularly the Resistance series, May 20 represents the final opportunity to experience these games through modern hardware, unless Sony announces a purchase option for modern consoles.
