Hazelight Studios' new co-op game Split Fiction has quickly become a hit, selling over one million copies in its first 48 hours after launching on March 6 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

The studio couldn't contain their excitement, sharing on social media: "The love you all show for our game is overwhelming! Everyone here at Hazelight are beyond happy – and we can't stop enjoying your amazing reactions!"

This is a huge leap forward for the team. Their previous game, It Takes Two, needed a whole month to reach the million-copy mark back in 2022. The faster success shows just how much Hazelight's reputation has grown since their last critically acclaimed release.

EA, publisher of the game, confirmed to PC Gamer that these impressive numbers only count actual game purchases, not including anyone playing through the Friend's Pass feature. This free pass allows people who don't own the game to play alongside friends who have purchased it.

The player stats are pretty mind-blowing too. Split Fiction hit a peak of 259,000 concurrent players on Steam, blowing past It Takes Two's previous record of around 71,000 players. Players seem to love it, giving the game an "overwhelmingly positive" rating across more than 14,000 Steam reviews.

The game's gameplay and the characters Mio and Zoe are also being praised by news media and critics as some calling it a GOTY contender.
