New images have surfaced online that appear to show an upcoming Star Wars tactical game being developed by Respawn Entertainment and Bit Reactor. The leaked screenshots, dated from mid-2023, provide fans with their first glimpse of the game ahead of its official reveal planned for April 19.
According to MP1st, the images were discovered in a Bit Reactor artist's portfolio and show a turn-based combat system featuring Mandalorian characters fighting against clone troopers. The game, which is reportedly codenamed "Star Wars: Bruno," appears to draw inspiration from tactical titles like XCOM rather than previous Star Wars strategy games.
The screenshots reveal several gameplay elements, including an isometric view typical of turn-based tactical games. Players can be seen controlling a small squad consisting of two Mandalorians and a droid during what appears to be a prisoner rescue mission. The interface displays various combat options, including thermal detonators and deployable smaller droids that players can use during missions.
Beyond combat, the leaks also showcase a headquarters located in something called the "Kafrene Mining Colony." This hub area features several interactive options including an Armory, Holotable, Special Ops section, and a Black Market. These elements suggest the game will include customization and progression systems common in tactical games.
.It's worth noting that since these images are approximately a year and a half old, the current state of the game may differ significantly from what's shown in the leaks. However, the core gameplay mechanics likely remain similar even if the visuals have evolved since this build was created.
Fans won't have to wait long for official information, as Lucasfilm has already confirmed that the game will be formally unveiled during a one-hour panel at Star Wars Celebration in Japan on April 19. This reveal will provide the first official details about the project that was initially announced in early 2022.
This tactical Star Wars game adds to a growing list of Star Wars titles currently in development. The franchise has seen mixed success in gaming recently, with the Star Wars Jedi series performing well while Ubisoft's Star Wars Outlaws "failed to meet expectations," despite good reviews.
While the leaked images don't confirm which platforms the game will release on, the presence of controller buttons in the UI suggests it will likely launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series consoles, with a possible Nintendo Switch 2 release not ruled out.
