Street Fighter Movie Reboot Maybe Finds Its Main Heroes

Ryu, Andrew Koji, Ken, Noah Centineo

Sony & Legendary's Street Fighter movie reboot is back in action—and it’s bringing some big names to the fight. According to Nexus Point News, Andrew Koji and Noah Centineo are currently in talks to take on the iconic roles of Ryu and Ken Masters, two of the franchise’s most recognizable (and most ripped) characters.

Behind the scenes, things haven’t been all Hadoukens and hurricane kicks. Earlier this year, original directors Danny and Michael Philippou—best known for the horror hit Talk to Me—bowed out due to scheduling conflicts. But the project didn’t stay down for long. Kitao Sakurai, the chaotic mind behind Netflix’s Bad Trip, has stepped in to direct.

Let’s talk casting. Andrew Koji, who’s being eyed for Ryu, has serious martial arts cred. He led the charge in Warrior, swung swords as Storm Shadow in Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins, and most recently showed up in Bullet Train alongside Brad Pitt. He’s no stranger to intense action, and Ryu’s disciplined, stoic nature fits well with Koji’s vibe.

On the other hand, Noah Centineo is in discussions to play Ken Masters, Ryu’s more fiery, fun-loving counterpart. You might know Centineo from Netflix’s To All the Boys series, but he’s not just a rom-com guy anymore. He bulked up for Black Adam as Atom Smasher, and proved he can lead an action series in The Recruit. Ken’s flashier fighting style and cocky charm? Yeah, Centineo could absolutely sell that.

Let’s not forget—Ryu and Ken have been kicking digital butt together since 1987, appearing in every major Street Fighter game, including 2023’s Street Fighter 6, which took home Best Fighting Game at The Game Awards.

The Street Fighter reboot has been in development since 2023, when Legendary Pictures teamed up with Capcom to bring the world warriors back to the big screen. The most recent draft of the screenplay comes from Dalan Musson, known for his work on Captain America: Brave New World. So there’s definitely some blockbuster pedigree here.

Originally, the film was slated for a March 20, 2026 release, but Sony recently pulled it from the calendar. There’s no new release date yet.

Oh, and if you’re wondering what else Sony has in the gaming-to-film pipeline? There’s a live-action Helldivers 2 film announced at CES 2025, a Horizon Zero Dawn movie that promises to bring Aloy’s post-apocalyptic world to life, and a Ghost of Tsushima anime series from Crunchyroll targeting 2027.
