A new chapter in the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series appears to be on the horizon, with strong indications that a remastered version of Pro Skater 3 and 4 will launch in mid-2025. This development comes after years of uncertainty surrounding the future of the beloved skateboarding franchise.
The project, known internally at Microsoft as "Project Chicago," is reportedly planned for a surprise release during the Xbox Summer Showcase in June 2025. According to insider extas1s, the game will be immediately available on Xbox Game Pass following its announcement, with simultaneous releases on Steam and PlayStation 5 platforms.
Adding credibility to these reports, professional skateboarder Tyshawn Jones, who previously appeared in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2, recently confirmed on The Breakfast Club podcast that "a new remastered Tony Hawk game is coming soon." This revelation is particularly significant given Jones's direct involvement with the franchise.
The journey to this point hasn't been straightforward. Back in June 2022, Tony Hawk himself revealed that a Pro Skater 3+4 remaster had been in development before being shelved due to the merger of developer Vicarious Visions into Activision Blizzard. The situation seemed to improve by 2024 when, during the series' 25th anniversary, Hawk mentioned ongoing discussions with Activision about creating "something the fans will truly appreciate."
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2, received widespread acclaim upon its release in 2020. That remake successfully modernized the classic gameplay while maintaining the spirit of the original titles, which first debuted over two decades ago.
While details about specific features and improvements remain under wraps, this new release would join an increasingly active skateboarding game market, with EA's Skate also scheduled for early access in 2025.
