Twitch is making a big change in 2025 that will allow almost all streamers to make money through subscriptions and bits from day one, according to CEO Dan Clancy's recent blog post.
Currently, streamers need to become "Affiliates" by meeting certain requirements before they can earn money. This new policy will remove that barrier, making it easier for new content creators to start earning as soon as they begin streaming.
"We want you to be able to take advantage of our monetization tools, whether you're just getting your community started, or have been on Twitch for a while," Clancy wrote.
The update means creators won't need to achieve specific follower counts or streaming hours before accessing monetization features. However, Clancy noted this will apply to "most streamers," suggesting those with account violations might still face restrictions.
Beyond opening up earnings potential, Twitch is planning several other improvements to help creators grow. The platform will introduce more sponsorship opportunities by creating tools that connect brands with streamers interested in collaborations. Twitch also plans to run more promotional events throughout 2025, with the first scheduled from March 27-31 featuring discounted gift subscription bundles.
Collaboration features are getting an upgrade as well. According to the CEO, Twitch will launch "Shared Hype Trains" for streamers using the Stream Together or Shared Chat features, allowing creators to earn money together during collaborative streams.
For content distribution, Twitch is developing better tools for clips - short highlights from streams that creators can share across social media. The platform plans to make these clips easier to edit and share, while also exploring automated ways to identify the best moments from streams.
