Xbox Gaming Now Available on LG Smart TVs

Microsoft has brought Xbox cloud gaming to select LG Smart TV models, allowing owners to play games directly on their TVs without a console.

This new feature, which was first teased in January, is now available through the Xbox app in the LG Gaming Portal.

The Xbox app on LG TVs works with any LG TV that runs WebOS 24 or 25, which generally includes models released in 2022 or later.

Some 2021 StanbyME displays will also get the update, though these will receive it after other compatible models.

To use this feature, you'll need three things: a compatible LG TV, an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, and a Bluetooth controller.

The setup process is straightforward—simply navigate to the LG Gaming Portal from the home screen, download the Xbox app, sign in to your Microsoft account, connect your controller, and start playing.

According to Microsoft's announcement, the service supports various controllers including Xbox Wireless Controllers, Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2, and even PlayStation's DualSense and DualShock 4 controllers. This means PlayStation 5 owners can play Xbox games on their LG TVs with their existing controllers.

The Xbox app gives access to hundreds of games in the Game Pass Ultimate catalog, including popular titles like "Avowed" and "South of Midnight."

Game Pass Ultimate members can also stream games they already own, such as "Assassin's Creed Shadows" and "Hogwarts Legacy."

This move is part of Microsoft's broader strategy to expand the Xbox brand beyond traditional consoles. As TechRadar points out, this isn't the first TV manufacturer to support Xbox cloud gaming—Samsung TVs have had this capability since 2022, and Amazon Fire TV devices gained support in 2024.

While cloud gaming offers convenience, game quality depends heavily on your internet connection. Fast internet is crucial for better streaming quality and reduced latency. Some users, particularly those in areas with slower internet speeds, may experience quality issues when cloud gaming.

The Xbox app is currently available in over 25 countries on compatible LG Smart TVs.
