Popular Twitch streamer Felix 'xQc' Lengyel has revealed plans for a major gaming tournament featuring Marvel Rivals with a prize pool of $250,000.
The online competition, called the Marvel Rivals xQc Invitational, will take place on May 9 and bring together numerous well-known streamers and content creators.
During his April 20 livestream, xQc shared the news with his audience after months of preparation. "I've been working on this for months now, and finally I can kind of, like, announce it," he said. "May 9, put it on your schedule: xQc Marvel Rivals Invitational, $250k prize pool."
What makes this tournament particularly interesting is that xQc himself is contributing a significant portion of the prize money. According to the streamer, he's investing his own funds while Marvel is also supporting the event financially. This partnership has enabled the creation of what xQc describes as a "mega tournament" with "massive things" planned.
The event marks an important milestone for xQc, who expressed excitement about organizing his own tournament "for the first time in forever." While he has participated in numerous gaming events throughout his career, this represents a new chapter where he has full creative control over the production.
xQc rose to fame initially as a professional Overwatch player for the Dallas Fuel before transitioning to full-time content creation. His energetic personality and entertaining streams have made him one of the most-watched creators on platforms like Twitch and Kick, where he reportedly signed a remarkable $100 million deal in 2023.
Though the complete lineup of participants hasn't been announced yet, the tournament will showcase Marvel Rivals, a 6v6 team-based shooter game that features characters from across the Marvel universe.
In addition to organizing the tournament, xQc mentioned that he might take on multiple roles during the event. "I might play in it and cast it," he added. "I might do a kind of dual production thing where, like, I'm trying to win as well. And if I'm out or not, I can cast the other games as well."
The 29-year-old Canadian content creator hopes to create a "good, balanced, and cool event" that will entertain viewers. With his experience both as a competitive player and popular streamer, xQc can bring valuable perspective to the tournament's organization.
